Kharkov: fascist thugs disperse Communist Party rally against price increases

On September 18 a gang of fascist thugs drawn mainly from ultras from the local Metallist football team attacked a Communist Party rally protesting against price increases and Kiev’s so-called “anti-terrorist operation” against the Donbass.

According to a report in Golos, the local secretary of the Communist Party Alla Alexander explained how: “the purpose of the meeting was to highlight social problems, in particular, an unacceptably low minimum subsistence level. The action started at 17:00, but 15 minutes later it was attacked by a group of 50 unknowns. These were mainly young people, athletic, most of them were wearing masks… They broke flags, posters and a microphone.”

The police did not arrest any of the attackers and the local secretary of the Communist Party has declared that she has no hope that they will be prosecuted.

A few days earlier Metallist ultras had joined forces with Dnipro ultras to march through the streets of Kharkov in defence of “national unity” in what in fact was a show of strength by far right thugs shouting patriotic slogans of the neo-nazis and waving the Right Sector black and red flags.

The tactic of using football hooligans bussed in from other towns to terrorise your opponents and encourage your own side was already used in several cities in the days leading to the Odessa massacre on May 2nd in which far right Kharkov Metallist football hooligans played a role.

On September 14, ultras from Carpathians and Vorskla also marched together with soldiers from the neo-nazi Azov Battalion in another “march for unity” before a local football match.
