The British campaign group Solidarity with the Antifascist Resistance in Ukraine condemns the banning of Communist symbols in Ukraine.
This attack on democratic rights and freedom of expression comes into force at the same time as another law, under which wartime Nazi collaborators who carried out murderous progroms against Jews, Poles and others, are officially recognised as “fighters for the freedom of Ukraine”. Thus, Communist symbols are made illegal while symbols of neo-Nazis are legalised.
This repressive act further reveals the anti-democratic nature of the far right regime in Kiev that is so enthusiastically backed by the British government and its US and EU allies. Meanwhile, the neo-Nazi leader of the ‘Right Sector’ fascist party, Dmitry Yarosh has just been appointed as Adviser to the Chief of General Staff of the Armed Forces.
As a campaign backed by trade unionists including UK transport workers’ union RMT, we appeal to all labour movement bodies and consistent democrats of all countries to join us in condemning this attack on democratic rights and to isolate this anti-democratic regime.
