Repression in the shadow of the ceasefire (Borotba sttement)

borotbalogoMaidan politicians who fought Yanukovych under the banner of democracy are methodically using police methods to destroy the opposition. Where police operations are not possible, they employ Right Sector goons. Some were arrested, some were killed in the House of Trade Unions [in Odessa massacre] or disappeared under mysterious circumstances, some had to emigrate.

Yesterday, “Alpha” Special Security Forces soldiers broke into the apartment of Borotba activist Maria Matyushenko in Dnepropetrovsk. During a so-called search, the fighters of the “anti-terrorist” operation have taken away two computers and three mobile phones belonging to members of Maria’s family, and even the tablet of her 13-year-old sister. “Maybe you will also take the TV away?” told the activist’s mother to the brave law enforcers. The reason for these repressive measures, as admitted by the security agents themselves, was Maria’s online activism.

A few days before, the SBU [Security Service of Ukraine – similar to the FBI] summoned our activist from Chernigov for the same reason — opposition activities on social networks. Our comrade was threatened with a 15-year jail sentence if he does not remove the group of Chernigov Borotba activists from VK [social media platform like Facebook] and continues online activities against the Kiev junta.

So, now you do not need even to go to “separatist” rallies – it is enough to express doubts about the correctness of the war being waged by Kiev against its own people in the Donbass, or the legitimacy of billionaire-made-president Poroshenko’s election, to make you a felon subject to repressive measures.

Recently, some blogs have published scanned SBU documents which list those wanted for “separatism” by Ukrainian authorities. These lists make it clear what kind of “democracy” the Kiev junta plans to impose on Ukraine. Take Odessa, for example. The list includes all Odessa oppositionists, from Borotba member Alexei Albu to lawyer Kvasnyuk, from expelled Communist Party member Rostislav Bard to comedic Orthodox fundamentalist Kaurova. Anyone who somehow opposed the post-Maidan authorities is sought by the Security Service.

Where police operations are not possible, they employ Right Sector goons. Some were arrested, some were killed in the House of Trade Unions [in Odessa massacre] or disappeared under mysterious circumstances, some had to emigrate.

The repression continues in the shadow of the peace talks which Kiev initiated. As we have seen, the Kiev government broke the ceasefire on the first day, shelling the positions of the Donbass militias and civilians. But even if a truce really will be realized in the Donbass, there is no truce in Kharkov, Odessa or Dnepropetrovsk. There is a “silent” war against dissidents, in which peaceful opponents of the war are also killed or wounded.

Sitting down at the negotiating table with representatives of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics, the Kiev authorities showed residents of other regions of the South-East that they respect only force. Those who protested peacefully are not sitting at the negotiating table, but in a felon’s dock.

If the Kiev junta, through all its actions, says: to have a voice, you must take up arms — is it any wonder that the flames of civil war soon break out where peaceful opposition has been systematically destroyed?
